The physical landscape of a classroom contributes to the productivity of the class. I display student work, anchor charts, and posters around the classroom to make the room more inviting. The materials on the walls reflect us as a class and what we believe in. Students seeing their own work reinforces that they produce quality pieces and valuable information for others to see. We keep our classroom clean so it lasts and we care about the area we utilize for learning. A disorganized classroom can result in a dysfunctional class, pose as a distraction, and advertise an environment that does not reflect flourishing minds. High usage areas are free of clutter (craft closet, sink, door) so that we can retrieve materials easily. overall layout of our class this school year is inclusive of students with physical disabilities. The spacious layout allows for wheelchair access to all areas of the room and clear pathways for quick evacuation. |
"If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together". Collaboration is a key to success in our classroom. Students sit in groups so they can freely share ideas and access one another for advice. I believe it is important for children to learn from one another so they know how to effectively communicate. As a result they become teachers themselves in the learning process. They are able to adopt different perspectives and try new ways of attaining information. By collaborating we grow stronger as a community and build on our thinking. |
